About Pack Up and Go

Hi, I’m Matt, the creator of the Pack Up and Go travel blog.  It’s inspired by over 25 years of my personal international travel experience.  Besides being born in the USA, I’ve also lived abroad in Spain, England and now Mexico.  Furthermore I started and still run a successful vacation rental company in the Caribbean.  Travel has been and is my life and passion.  Thank you for taking a few moments to learn about Pack Up and Go.

A bit of background

Basically in 2008 my partner, Allan, and I relinquished our humdrum white collar jobs, and decided to move to Mexico to start a property management company.  Many of our friends thought we were crazy to give up well paying positions in pursuit of the foreign and unknown.  Frankly we felt otherwise.

Luckily we ignored the naysayers and followed our innate instinct.  Hence we sold or donated anything that couldn’t fit into our three-row SUV.  Then one early summer morning we drove from Boston to Playa del Carmen in pursuit of our dream.

We figured failure was the worst scenario.  But we reasoned a plausible lack of success was far better than giving up without ever trying.  Therefore over the next decade we worked diligently to ensure success.

Eventually we built our idea into one of the premier property management companies in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.  With nearly 30 employees and 100 properties under management, we lived a comfortable and exciting life.  Most notably we traveled internationally three to four months annually.  Even though we often worked seven days a week, our office hours were flexible, thus allowing us to run our company from anywhere.

Furthermore, while back home in Mexico we socialized with a large group of like-minded vagabonds who also explored the globe.  Over dinner and margaritas we shared stories from the road and travel tricks and tips.  These conversations complimented our vast globe-trotting experience.

Words from a friend

We found happiness, but we had underestimated the rarity of our charmed existence.  Specifically a pal back in Boston commented on our success, and announced she desired our wanderlust life.  Her compliment prompted me to ponder.  I didn’t feel like we did anything special.  Perhaps I failed to realize our wayfaring lifestyle was uncommon.

Regardless I strongly felt many could achieve the same level of contentment and freedom to travel.  Yes, we took a calculated risk by packing up and moving to Mexico.  However, through a bit of luck, hard work and proper planning we created an ideal life.  Easily I could show others how to construct their own personalized vagabond existence.

Realizing my purpose

In that moment I realized my mission.  Through creating this travel blog, I could share our wanderlust lifestyle with others.  By doing so I could inspire them to pack up and go explore the globe.  Furthermore I could teach others how to often travel at no cost through our travel tips and tricks.

Globe-trotting is a fun and exciting way of life.  Don’t wait for tomorrow to start traveling.  With a bit of foresight and diligence, almost anyone can just pack up and go!

Perhaps you can start your next adventure soon by reading this article which illustrates one of the ways we finances our trips.
